Celebrate Mom with a Special Brunch

May 02, 2010

The countdown to Mother’s Day is on.  Time to thank our moms for the many, many things they do – both big, small and everything in between!

And what is a better way to say thank you than by making mom a special brunch?  Read on for an easy brunch plan that can engage the kids and make mom feel like a queen.

Start with flowers

Flowers are a thoughtful touch that is bound to be appreciated.  This year why not try a Bouquet of Photo Flowers?  This is a fun and simple way to turn decorating the table into a memorable kid-friendly craft project that mom is sure to love.

Choose your menu

Pancakes are a straightforward meal that the kids can help prepare.  You can use metal cookie cutters to make fun shapes or add some festive ingredients to make them extra special for mom.  To bring some pizzazz to an old standby, try this recipe for Apple Butterscotch Pancakes – sure to be a hit with both mom and kids!

Another item to serve that mom is sure to love is “Momosas”.  Get out the champagne flutes (or leftover birthday party paper cups), add two parts of mom’s favourite juice, one part ginger ale and voila – a festive drink to say cheers to mom!

Get the conversation flowing

Sometimes even the most talkative of households run out of things to chat about during mealtimes.  Given that this brunch is celebrating all things mom, how about a Mom Pop Quiz?  Here are some sample questions to ask:

What is mom’s favourite colour?
Where was mom born?
What restaurant does mom like best?
What food doesn’t mom like?
What is one of mom’s favourite songs?

Playlist

Music adds great ambience to any mealtime.  Here are some suggestions for mom-friendly tunes to get the party started!

Walking on Sunshine – Katrina and the Waves
Mamma Mia - ABBA
All You Need is Love – The Beatles
My Girl – The Temptations
Holiday – Madonna

Did you know?

The roots of Mother's Day tradition dates all the way back to the times of ancient Greeks who held festivities to honor Rhea, the mother of the gods.
