I have invited a K-1 class from a nearby elementary school to my Foods 12 class. The students do some research on what younger children like to eat and come up with some simple, healthy recipes. (Several Prescribed Learning Outcomes are covered by this activity.)
We divide into groups and each group teaches about Canada's Food Guide and food groups and then makes a recipe. We then all share and taste. We usually end up with mini pita pizzas, smoothies, veggies and healthy dips, fruit kabobs or salad, etc.
Everyone has a good time and a lot of wonderful learning takes place.
