We’ve got some winners!

September 12, 2011

The 2011 Hands-On Cook-Off contest has come to a close, the judges have deliberated and the verdict is in … (drumroll please!) …

And the winners are…

First place goes to Lila’s Cherry Clafouti

The Runner-up is: Growing Together

The People’s Choice award goes to Sophie’s Berry Picker Pie

This year, we were all so seriously impressed with the quality, efforts and creativity we saw in every video that we’ve decided to award everyone!  We’re surprising the remaining 19 entries with $100 gift cards for groceries! AND each video will receive a Today I Ate A Rainbow kit, a gift from one of our lovely judges Kia Robertson!

Some special mentions

Each video we watched really did bring something special this year! Strawberry Ice Cream was the best video for showing food and eating as part of the routine of the day; the very polished Dad and Daughters Cooking Show had the most professional cooking-show hosts; Stone Soup had the best use of a story in a video; the ultra-creative Urban Paradise Picnic was very Vancouver; Nora Makes Frittata gets two thumbs up for most amazing egg cracking skills by a little one; and Bannock over a Campfire deserves kudos for most creative campfire cooking!

An important message

We want to thank each of you for participating and for helping us get the message out about the important benefits of cooking and eating together. This contest is our way to raise awareness about the social, physical and academic benefits to people of all ages who prepare meals and eat together, as found in the Better Together research findings. Thanks again to EVERYONE who participated this year! We’ll be getting in touch to get your prizes to you soon!

And, here are a few of the highlights of the 2011 Hands-On Cook-Off Contest:

  • 22 video submissions were received from families across BC over a five-week period.
  • Children of all ages participated alongside adult family or community members.
  • The public was able to vote for their favourites and the video with the most public votes was crowned ‘People’s Choice.’
  • Grand and runner up prizes were chosen by a panel of judges including co-Host of Urban Rush, Michael Eckford; Celebrity Chef and Founder of the Dirty Apron Cooking School; David Robertson; President of Today I Ate A Rainbow, Kia Robertson and Manager of Public Health Nutrition for the BC Ministry of Health, Margaret Yandel.
